A panel of esteemed experts in their fields has been appointed to make recommendations to the Minister for Racing to fill four positions on the board of Racing NSW.

The panel has been appointed in accordance with the

Thoroughbred Racing Act 1996 and will consider applications for the board with appointments to be made by the end of the year. The four board positions need to be filled because the sitting members’ terms are due to expire in December.

The members of the selection panel are:

• John O’Neill (Chair), former Managing Director and CEO Australian Rugby Union Limited, CEO Football Federation of Australia, Managing Director and CEO of State Bank of NSW, current Chairman of Echo Entertainment.

• Dr Bruce Christie, former NSW Chief Veterinary Officer, current Executive Director of NSW Biosecurity.

• Andrew Cappie-Wood, Secretary of the NSW Department of Justice

Deputy Premier and Minister for Racing Troy Grant said the panel provides a great mix of expertise across a number of areas including animal welfare, sports and public administration.

"I’m confident this panel will recommend the best board members possible who will continue to provide good governance of the thoroughbred racing industry," Mr Grant said.

"The racing industry is very important to the state’s economy so maintaining its good governance record is key to its future success."

Applications for positions are open until 2 October. Information on how to apply can be found on the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing website.
