A correctional officer was taken to hospital for X-rays following an alleged assault by an inmate yesterday afternoon. The incident occurred at the High Risk Management Correctional Centre (Supermax) in Goulburn.

The inmate was being returned to his cell when he allegedly struck the officer with his hands, which were in handcuffs.
Other officers present responded immediately.

The injured officer received medical treatment from nursing staff at the centre and was driven to Goulburn Base Hospital, which he left last night.
