Judge Robert Toner SC passed away today after a distinguished legal career including more than ten years on the District Court bench.

His Honour was admitted to the profession in 1981 and was appointed Senior Counsel in 1997. He was sworn in as a judge of the District Court in 2007.

Judge Toner earned the deep respect of colleagues on the bench, those at the bar who appeared before him and the profession more broadly, serving for a time on the Council of the NSW Bar Association including terms as Secretary and Treasurer.

On behalf of the government and people of NSW, I offer Judge Toner’s family my sincere condolences.

His contribution to the administration of justice in this state is something for which we owe him a debt of gratitude.
