Up to six inmates from Cessnock and St Heliers Correctional Centre have more than 40 artworks on display at the Wollombi Valley Arts Council Gallery.
Their pieces which capture colour, movement and cultural themes have attracted strong public interest. The series of paintings and drawings are part of the 12th annual Inside Art exhibition. More than 50 people attended the opening during which four paintings were snapped up.
Under the artistic direction of visual arts teacher Valerie Maude, the inmates have gained painting and drawing skills while in custody. The exhibition runs until 19 April.
The Wollombi Valley Arts Council is on Wollombi Road, Wollombi.
