Werrington Lakes Flora and Fauna Reserve between Penrith and St Marys in Sydney is a lot cleaner thanks to the efforts of 30 inmates and the Clean Up Australia campaign.
Over the Clean Up Australia weekend in March, inmates from the Outer Metropolitan Multi-Purpose Correctional Centre collected 50 bags of rubbish.
The inmates were part of a national contingent of nearly 700,000 volunteers who removed almost 17,000 tonnes of rubbish from more than 7,000 sites across Australia.
Assistant Superintendent Frank Cunningham said the inmates did a really good job for the local community.
